Rusredmet specialists took part in the XXII Mendeleev Congress, held in Sirius from October 7 to 12, 2024, showcasing innovations in lithium extraction and functional materials.
The Mendeleev Congress is one of Russia’s premier chemistry forums, bringing together researchers and industry practitioners to discuss the latest advances across all branches of modern chemistry. This year’s event drew over 4,000 chemists from 40 countries, featuring more than 22,600 presentations.
Rusredmet presented a report titled “Aluminum Hydroxide-Based Sorbent for Selective Lithium Extraction from Hydromineral Raw Materials,” delivered by M.V. Maslova. Lithium, often dubbed “white oil,” is a strategically crucial element used in modern functional materials that underpin the country’s technological sovereignty. Reflecting its importance, this year’s Congress included numerous presentations on lithium extraction and the development of lithium-containing materials.
Among the Congress’s key resolutions was a call to establish demonstration and pilot-industrial facilities to accelerate the translation of research into practice. Rusredmet is well-positioned to support this initiative, both by developing such facilities and providing equipment for large-scale laboratory testing. Another resolution recommended that the Russian government resume the Program for the Development of Rare and Rare-Earth Metals Industry to ensure sustainable economic growth and strengthen national defense capabilities.
The Congress underscored that while chemistry offers solutions to a broad range of scientific and technological challenges, bridging the gap from fundamental research to industrial application requires close collaboration between scientists and industry professionals.
